Summer hike in Glarus
Hi friends!
I wanted to share with you a beautiful hike I did with my boyfriend in the Canton of Glarus. We went there at the beginning of August, and the mountains were buzzing with flowers, butterflies, and the sound of cowbells. The views from the top were magnificent.
Isn't it wonderlul?
Here is a summary of our little adventure. We left Zurich early in the morning and arrived in the small village of Ennenda in the Canton of Glarus. There, we took a gondola that brought us a bit higher up the mountain to a place called Bärenboden at 1446 meters of altitude. From there, we continued on foot and climbed about 900 meters in elevation before reaching the top of the ridge. I was a bit tired and, most of all, really hungry (as always during a hike 😉).
We stopped on the ridge for a picnic. The views were fantastic!
Look at this photo: this was my view from where I was sitting. I could hear the sound of cowbells ringing from a bit lower down.
After our lunch break, we continued our hike and followed the ridge for a while. The views from the ridge were extraordinary. We even saw a yellow butterfly, a swallowtail, at such high altitude.
Then we descended, passing by the small lakes of Fessis-Seeli. The area is full of tiny lakes where you can swim. The water wasn’t very cold. I only dipped my feet in, but I regretted not bringing my swimsuit because it was so beautiful.
After this little refreshing break, we continued descending. The landscapes were stunning. There were plenty of flowers, especially wild orchids. We returned to the gondola and descended back to the village of Ennenda.
This hike completely cleared my mind. Being in the mountains always calms me. In the evening, I was so tired from our hike that I fell asleep really quickly.
Let me know if you try this hike as well.
Much love,
Nastassja
How to go there
From the village of Ennenda, you need to take a little gondola (Aueugstenbahn cabin) to go up the mountain. We booked the cabin in advance by calling them. We then went up the mountain until the ridge, followed it and went down afterwards.
I put you below the map and the details of our hike.
The level of the hike is intermediate.
You first take a gondola at Ennenda bringing you to Bärenboden at 1446 meters of altitude. The tour begins there.
We did the tour turning left towards Heustock, then following the ridge (towards Gufelstock) and going down through Fessis and its litlle lakes.
