Where to Hike in Spring in Switzerland

From March or April, I like to start my hiking season in Switzerland. Ticino is perfect for spring. Below, I suggest two beautiful hiking spots in Ticino where you can enjoy nature and a change of scenery. Both hikes have little elevation gain and are kid-friendly. There are many buses along the way, making it easy to adjust the route.

1. Val Verzasca

Val Verzasca is an idyllic valley with a turquoise river winding through the mountains. Take the bus to the charming stone village of Sonogno, then follow the river to Lavertezzo. From there, you can take a bus back to Locarno.

  • Distance: 14 km

  • Ascent / Descent: 225m / 623m

  • Time: 3h30

I just love the Val Verzasca with its many waterfalls. It’s like walking through a dream… You can click on the pictures to see them bigger.

2. Val Bavona

The Val Bavona is a beautiful and wild region. Take the bus to S. Carlo (Val Bavona) and hike to the Foroglio waterfall. Then, you can continue along the Bavona River. There are buses throughout the valley, so it’s easy to return.

This place feels timeless, with chestnut trees and old stone villages along the way. You will pass by little stone villages in Val Bavona. You can click on the pictures below to see them bigger.
